Things are moving fast for the UCT Women’s Rugby program. Having evolved from primarily participating in tag rugby, 7s, and 10s competitions, the programme has grown significantly in recent years, with UCT now an established competitor in the Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU) Women’s League.
Dimpho Kwayine’s Inspiring Provincial Selection
This growth is reflected in the success of players like Dimpho Kwayine, whose rugby journey continues to inspire. After representing the Western Province U20 side last year, Kwayine has earned selection to the senior Western Province Women’s team in 2026, a remarkable achievement for both the player and the UCT Women’s Rugby programme.
Her selection demonstrates that the pathway from the Green Mile to top-level provincial rugby is a reality for UCT athletes.
“Dimpho’s selection shows every player in our programme that provincial and national aspirations are within reach through hard work, commitment, and dedication,” said the UCT Rugby Executive.
A Breeding Ground for National Standouts
Kwayine joins a growing list of UCT players making their mark on the representative stage, alongside national standouts such as Insaaf Levy, SA Sevens training squad invitee Paige Waberski, and SA Tag Rugby World Cup representative Londiwe Shabalala.
As the Ikey Tigers Women continue to strengthen their 15s programme and compete at the highest university and club levels, players like Kwayine embody the standard of excellence the club is striving to achieve.
