UCT fend off NNK

UCT 35 : 34 NNK 

The game between UCT and NNK was scheduled for the Saturday, fortunately the game got cancelled, torrential downpours and strong winds, turned the ‘UCT wind tunnel’ into an inhospitable field. Both teams agreed to re-schedule the game for the following Wednesday. Luckily fine weather and sunshine had dried up the field for the Wednesday game.

Victorians vs UCT in Stellenbosch

Victorians 20 : 21 UCT 

UCT travelled to Stellenbosch on Wednesday 16 May to take on Vics at the Danie Craven Stadium. UCT, with a number of crucial injury woes, were fielding a number of new recruits and second team players. A new cap to Mathew Rosslee at flyhalf for the first team, coming up from the U20 side to fill in for the injured Gareth Wright. Rito Hlungwane out with a broken thumb saw promising youngster Mike Ledwige back in the starting 15.

UCT vs Hamiltons away

Hamiltons 29 : 21 UCT

 On Saturday 12 May UCT travelled to Greenpoint to play against the newly ‘re-vitalised’ Hamies XV. Both the UCT 1st team and 2nd team went to Hammies with their usual arrogance and swagger, and both teams got thoroughly put back in their places.  

The first half began with both sides trading penalties. Hammies, obviously having watched the Bulls from last year, played a typical ‘first channel style of rugby’. UCT, led by Bodo Sieber, in the absence of the injured Kevin Foote, let opportunities slip through their fingers throughout the first half, but some great interplay and running rugby between Richard Lawson, David Clayton and James Richards helped to put some spark into UCT’s attack.

INTERVARSITY UCT vs Maties in Newlands

Maties 36 : 26 UCT 

uct_maties_2007_02.jpgOn Saturday 5 May 2007 UCT XV took on Stellenbosch, in the annual ‘intervarsity’ clash. What was different from previous years was that the game was to be played as the curtain raiser for the Sharks/ Stormers game, at Newlands. For those of you who do not know the ‘intervarsity’ clash was originally played at Newlands, and only recently has it been moved to the Stellenbosch home ground. It is thus a welcome return for the intervarsity game.

Ikeys battle vs Collegians away

Collegians 3 : 10 UCT 

UCT travelled to Mitchell’s Plain on the 21st to take on Collegians, who have just survived a relegation challenge from Peniel Villagers. UCT had a number of replacements lock Matt Johnson up for Bodo Sieber, who was away on international duty, playing for Germany in the Ukraine. Milo up for injured scrum half, Andrew Martin up for injured Dave Edgar, James Martin up for injured Marvin Christensen and Rob Hopwood up for Richard Lawson who was called to do the Vodacom side.
