Friday the 13th, usually a day synonymous with ghastly ghosts, breathtaking terror and spooky sounds, but this Friday the 13th promises to be a little different.
The Club has recently partnered with the VUSA Rugby Academy to launch the VUSA-Ikeys Rugby Programme for young up and coming rugby players in the Langa community. Meaning “to wake up” or “lift up spiritually” in isiXhosa, VUSA offers a structured program designed to restore dignity, build self-esteem, and develop the rugby and academic skills of disadvantaged children across the Western Cape.
The Ikeys narrowly missed out on a semi-final place by just two points in Mondays game, after being beaten in the unofficial quarter final 18-17 by UJ. A win by the Ikeys would have resulted in them ending fourth and meeting the Maties in the semi-final.
Presenting The Ikeys Premier League! 6 rugby franchises going head to head for 3 weeks on the Green Mile! We will be holding the Ikey Premier League (IPL) – based on the Indian Premier Cricket League – for the entire club, bar a few VC players who will be rested.
It’s not often the Ikeys players get to experience the game away from their plush green fields (except this year!), semi-professional coaching set ups, and pre-game muffins. But when they do, they travel out to the middle of the Boland on a desolate field to play the inmates of Helderstroom Correctional Facility and Botrivier RFC.
